![]() ![]() Secondhand Spirits is light and breezy fun with a bit of darkness for some edge. I just discovered these types of cozy, paranormal mysteries, and I have to say I am ready for more. Witches and fashion - what's not to like! I would like to continue the series, but I might switch to the print version. Otherwise, it was a good story, and the descriptions of vintage clothing, witchcraft, and San Francisco were excellent. ![]() It did get slightly better as the book progressed, but overall I found the voice so distracting that I sometimes lost track of the story. Granted, there are some heavy themes in the book, but even Oscar's antics seemed almost depressing when described by this narrator. The end result is that the book had a heavier feel that I was looking for and that the reviews I read by people who had read the print version indicated. ![]() Her accent sounds genuine and she doesn't overdramatize (an annoying habit of some narrators), but the low, gravelly softness of her voice made it sound like she was going for some sort of languid, ultra-sexy sound even when there was nothing languid or sexy about what was happening in the book. She speaks in a throaty almost-whisper that trails off at the end of each sentence, sometimes to the point that I had a hard time understanding the last word. Sands is not without talent, but her style doesn't fit this type of story. A decent story, but the narration is a distraction. ![]() ![]() What I liked about the Crossfire series that Fifty Shades develops more in the second and third books is the suspense. I could see why they both were attracted to each other and love each other more so than Anastasia and Christian (in Fifty Shades I think it’s clearer why Christian needs Ana in his life more so than why Ana needs Christian in hers). The relationship dynamic between Gideon and Eva is also easier for me to see. Overall I would say the BDSM element is stronger in Fifty Shades than Crossfire which for me is an added bonus because I’m not the biggest BDSM fan. But what interested me about Bared to You was that it stars two dark characters that have tragedy filled pasts that the reader gets to uncover.Īs expected, there are some parallels between the two series in terms of the events the two leads find themselves in (read: jealous exes, insecurities and tormented pasts) but they do differ once you get past the first novel in the Crossfire series. As much as some people didn’t like Fifty Shades, I actually enjoyed the romantic suspense and drama that it brought–I just could have done without all the sex. ![]() I won’t lie: I will admit that I read Bared to You because it was linked to Fifty Shades of Grey. ![]() Genre: Contemporary, Erotica, Romance, Drama, Dark # of Books: 5 (Bared to You, Reflected in you, Entwined with You, Captivated by You, One With You)Ĭomplete?: No, One with You, has a publishing date TBA ![]() ![]() The Chase was one of my most anticipated reads of 2018 and let me say that Elle Kennedy certainly did not disappoint with the first book in this sure to be epic brand new series that fans of the Briar University universe have been craving. When I discovered that Elle Kennedy’s Off-Campus series was getting a spin off, Briar U I found myself leaping in excitement because I was sad when the original series came to an end! Those original four stories captivated my heart and I was ecstatic to see more from this group of friends, along with some new characters! So if my sexy brooding roomie wises up and realizes what he’s missing? I’ve got my hands full dealing with a new school, a sleazy professor, and an uncertain future. I’m not the kind of girl who chases after a man, though, and I’m not about to start. ![]() ![]() ![]() Fitzy has made it clear he’s not interested in me, even though the sparks between us are liable to burn our house down. It doesn’t help that he’s buddy-buddy with my brother.Īnd that his best friend has a crush on me. His narrow view of me is the first strike against him. I don’t usually go for tattoo-covered, video-gaming, hockey-playing nerd-jocks who think I’m flighty and superficial. And they must be right, because there’s no logical reason why I’m so drawn to Colin Fitzgerald. ![]() ![]() The next morning, a mysterious letter arrives and when she can't help but open it, she finds herself drawn inexorably into the story of two lovers from another time. ![]() Having fled from her abusive boyfriend and with nowhere to go, Jess stumbles onto a forgotten lane where a small, clearly unlived in old house offers her best chance of shelter for the night. Late on a frozen February evening, a young woman is running through the streets of London. Iona Grey's prose is warm, evocative, and immediately engaging her characters become so real you can't bear to let them go. An accomplished debut novel from a talented writer, Letters to the Lost is the kind of love story that will sweep you away from the very first page. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The worst part was that March was forced to watch it happen. Gideon is used to having a strong handle and control over his life – both business and personal. He is all of my favorite tropes I love in a hero. Dark, blunt, shrouded in mystery, and domineering, Gideon captured my heart. ![]() ![]() Honestly, I loved Gideon Cross from the moment he was introduced. There’s a new billionaire alpha male in town. Here’s my review trying to convince you why you need to read Bared to You, sprinkled with some sexy and emotional quotes that are just making me want to re-read it again. This was my first book by Sylvia Day and definitely not the last. It’s an enticing read of two broken characters, an emotional journey of them trying to beat their demons to come together, and their intense sexual chemistry – all laid right here in my review. It is an apt name for this book because it has the characters baring their secrets to one another (more on this below). Although I did read it because it was marketed as ‘similar to Fifty Shades of Grey’ (which was also one of my favorite books at the time), it is actually a mature version of that (if I had to compare them both).īared to You is the first book in the Crossfire series that had me completely hooked from page one when I read it for the first… second, and the fourth time. If there’s a billionaire romance that I will always recommend, it’s Bared to You by Sylvia Day. ![]() ![]() In college, she reads a book on village improvement in a sociology class and begins to dream of redesigning villages and towns.
